Galerie Mariska Dirkx is situated on the defense walls of the historic city of Roermond. The picturesque surrounding of the city underlines the character of the gallery. It has been an art studio for over 120 years. In 1979 the family van Wijk- Dirkx settled in the building with its rich historical background. Currently, the sculptor Dick van Wijk has his studio here. Several websites are dedicated to his work. The gallery is situated on the second floor. It is easy to understand why Galerie Mariska Dirkx started to present modern art glass objects. In the history of the studio, Joep Nicolas and relatives had an enormous impact on the stained glass profession. Because of this, Mariska Dirkx, became interested in their activities. From 1974 onwards, she organises art exhibitions on a regular basis. After founding the Joep Nicolas Foundation and starting an international masterclass project, the art glass objects got their well-deserved place in the gallery. Over the last 20 years Galerie Mariska Dirkx has been quite active. She participated in artfairs in Strasbourg, Geneva, Prague, Gent, Dusseldorf, Innsbruck, Amsterdam, The Hague,Tubbergen and Laren. Every other year she also organises an art biennale with a focus on art glass in an old cloister in Roermond.
